Hidden Treasure Tuesday - 100th Day Ed.

Back for another edition of "Hidden Treasure Tuesday" - this week's focus - 100th Day of School!

I know this auspicious day is coming up for many of us (although ours keeps getting pushed back with these crazy "cold" days!), so I thought it may help to share some ideas that have worked for me in the past with all of you as well as some new "treasures" I have located this year that look mighty fine too!

Last year I created these "Soy 100 días más inteligente/I Am 100 Days Smarter!" stickers for my kids and had them waiting on their desks as they entered the room in the morning to wear all day. I just printed them on simple Avery address labels. You could also print them on paper, cut and punch them and tie them around candy or a little gift for the special day! Grab a copy in English/Spanish by clicking on the image :)!

Another activity that my students seemed to truly enjoy each year was creating a 100th day trail mix for all to enjoy. I sent a note home to parents the night before asking them to count 100 small (and healthy) food items out with their children the night before and send them to school in a ziploc baggie to be added to our mix. We then worked together on our 100th day to count by 100's as we added all of the items to our giant bowl! Last year I had the students help me create an anchor chart as we counted titled "We can Count by 100's" and with each bag of goodies we added, I had a kiddo come up and add the next number to our list! With all they had brought, we were about to count to around 2,500, and it was  great reinforcement of how to skip count this way!

For other ideas and resources from 100's day past, feel free to visit a previous post on this topic here.

In perusing other blogs, pages, and Pinterest over the past few weeks, I have ran across some other 100th Day ideas that I have been adding to my "treasure" bank as well and would love to share with all of you!

This "100 Días de Maravilla" pack by Maestra Sandoval looks chalked full of a variety of language arts and mathematics activities to be used throughout the day!

Easy Teaching Tools utilized this "Aging Booth" app to create the most adorable little 100 year old photos of her students. This would be great to couple with a writing piece. Check out how she did it here.

This fun lil' freebie from Stephanie Chambers would be a great one to get your kids reflecting on what they have learned during the first 100 days and what they look forward to learning in the next 100 days! After all isn't this what we are celebrating? :). Get it here.

If you have a favorite 100th Day idea or lesson, I'd love for you to share a little about it or even share the link for us in the comments below!

Spanish Apps for the Classroom (That I Love!) - 2nd Ed.

A few months ago, I shared with all of you some of my favorite Spanish apps that I had discovered for the classroom. (You can check them out here.) Since then, I have uncovered a few more that I have found to be useful that I'd like to share with you in what I like to call...

Fonts/Graphics: Rowdy in Room 300, The Enlightened Elephant, Erin Bradley, Anita Goodwin

First off we have...
1. Spanish School Bus

This app offers lessons on a variety of basic vocabulary words/concepts in the Spanish language.

It includes a series of "flashcard" like games for students to select the correct picture to correspond with the word in a specific time frame. It also includes a section with videos and songs to reiterate these key concepts with the student.

Students can earn a variety of trophies as well as they work to accomplish the different tasks highlighted throughout the app.

This app is free initially, but then beyond a few levels, it does cost what I believe is $3.99 to unlock the additional levels.

2.) Kidpedia

This app is similar to "Spanish School Bus" in that its goal is to teach kids basic vocabulary in the Spanish language.

Within the app, one will find the option to change the language to English, Spanish, or even French! After selecting a language, students can select from a variety of categories for practice. Once in a category, students can click on and/or drag and drop objects to hear their name.

You can get a "lite" version of this app with just the shapes for free, otherwise to unlock the full app it is a small fee of $0.99!

3. Dikie and Dukie

As you can see from this cover image there are a variety of apps in this series. Many come in Spanish as well!

All of the Dikie and Dukie apps I have utilized are set up with a main menu highlighting three different levels of difficulty for practice, and then students will be taken to the activity screen within that level with a variety of options to chose from.

My personal favorite "Dikie and Dukie" apps in Spanish are the Math app...

...and the reading app.

Both have a variety of activities at different levels geared toward the K-2 learner.
There are Dikie Dukie apps for Science and Geography (and maybe even others) that are available for purchase as well. Each app costs $1.99.

If you have any other Spanish apps you've found that you love for the classroom that I haven't mentioned, I'd love for you to share so that I can add them to my repertoire!

My Senses Through the Seasons Activity

I am quite elated to share my latest creation with you all! I don't know about you guys, but I have always loved a good paper mini-book that my students could create and read based on a topic we are studying and then take home and keep for more reading there! What makes these mini-books even better is when the students have the opportunity to potentially add some of their own illustrations and writing to increase their ownership of the text!

This being said, I have taken my love for these mini-books and harnessed it in creating my latest pack!

"My Senses Through the Seasons (A Mini-Book Collection)" contains pages for your students to read, color, illustrate, and write about how they utilize their senses to identify each of the four seasons.
Check out this "My Winter Senses" book example:

(Srta. Carlson is clearly a very talented student ;)!)

All of the pages have a small corner image that conveys the theme throughout the book - hence the snowflake for winter.

Each book includes 5 - 1/2 pages for the senses with the sentence frames provided (as pictured above). Also, included is the cover page and intro. and conclusion pages with images that students can color for a total of 8 pages in all for each book.

All book pages come in both English and Spanish in the pack for each of the four seasons!

Not only will these mini-books provide a great, authentic text for your kiddos, but also would serve as wonderful way to review some key vocabulary of the seasons!

Have a great last few days before the much needed winter break!

TpT Illinois Tornado Relief Fundraiser

Just wanted to pop in briefly today to share something with you all that I am more than grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of. Over the past few weeks, a great number of us bloggers/TpT(ers) have worked together to donate some of our products to create bundles to be sold in an effort to raise money for those affected by the recent tornados in central Illinois.

Being an Illinois resident myself, and hearing the stories of friends and their family members that reside in these areas was very close to home for me and I feel like this is just one simple way in which I (along with many others involved) can work to show our support. Please consider visiting the TpT Store set up in honor of this relief fundraiser by clicking on the icon below.

There are bundles set up for a variety of grade levels and subject areas and there is most certainly something for everyone!

All proceeds will go toward the Red Cross of Central Illinois and bundles will be available throughout the entire month of December.

Thank you in advance for your consideration in supporting our efforts to extend a hand to other teachers, students, families, and community members in need. And God Bless!
